Mala
A mala is originally a Hindu and Buddhist tool for prayer and meditation. It is used to count mantras during meditation. A mantra is a set of words, often in Sanskrit, which is repeated several times - traditionally 108 -. While repeating, one concentrates on the meaning and vibration of the words, possibly combined with the accompanying visualization. By engaging in such a meditation practice, the thoughts rest and the body relaxes. Today, mala is also worn as a fashion accessory.
